Harmony in the Sea of Spirit
Surfing the emWave
Transforming Consciousness
12 Powerful Paths to Harmony
Six Sages

No doubt you have noticed the wonderful people, projects and programs rising into consciousness to help us deal with these challenging times. Over just the past year in America, Eckhart Tolle’s visions of A New Earth seeded spiritual awakening in millions of people watching “The Oprah Winfrey Show.” Former Vice-President Al Gore won the Nobel Peace Prize for his tireless work on the causes of and solutions to global warming, and now a brilliant young president, Barack Obama, will walk the moral, ethical and spiritual high road to socioeconomic parity, global dialogue and world peace.

These are exciting times indeed! Between 2001 and 2005, the number of Cultural Creatives—people who read at least 25 books a year on personal growth, green ecology, sustainable living and spirituality—increased from one-fifth to one-fourth of the U.S. adult population. Today, hundreds of millions of people across the world are participating in a global shift of consciousness.

Signs of this collective effort are springing up in the U.S. and abroad. Several years ago in America, spiritual leader Marianne Williamson stood up to demand a cabinet-level Department of Peace that will make peace an organizing principle in families, institutions and government; this movement is steadily gaining momentum. The World Oneness Campaign founded by Neale Donald Walsch, author of Conversations with God, is teaching social systems the concept of oneness, acquired by deep study with continual reference to the Source so that life is a constant prayer of connecting with inner divinity.

Deepak Chopra’s Alliance for A New Humanity networks organizations seeking to bring about a global change of heart. HeartMath’s Global Coherence Initiative asks people to pray peace, and its Global Coherence Monitoring System will measure the effect of personal coherence on the earth’s electromagnetic field, the protective ionosphere.

While peace ambassador James Twyman trains spiritual peacemakers, quantum physicist John Hagelin compiles hundreds of studies demonstrating that group meditation reduces violence in the immediate area: The greater the number of meditators, the more powerful the peace.

The number of Cultural Creatives is exponentially increasing as the science of spirituality explodes into books, art, film, music and scientific organizations like The HeartMath Institute, The Mind and Life Institute and The Institute of Noetic Sciences. The World Puja Network is spreading the good news in a global internet broadcasting system that taps the wisdom of spiritual visionaries to raise global consciousness.

Nothing on earth can stem this powerful tide of global transformation if we open our hearts wide enough to receive it and calmly surf the winds and waves of change. The great Hindu teacher, Paramahansa Yogananda, tells us how: “Quiet the outgoing restlessness and turn the mind within. Harmonize your thoughts and desires with the self-fulfilling realities you already possess in your soul. Then you will see the underlying harmony in your life and in all nature.”

To deepen into this underlying harmony, try this body-mind coherence technique developed by HeartMath ( Place both hands over your heart and for 20 seconds sit still and notice how you feel. Still focusing on your heart, spend the next 20 seconds appreciating a person, place or scene in nature. To further expand your state of awareness, send feelings of care and compassion to people across the planet. Emerging from this meditation, notice your sense of peace and oneness.

This mind-calming meditation neutralizes the rising stress in the earth’s magnetic field and connects us with the sea of light that quantum pioneers call the Zero Point Field and religion calls the Holy Spirit. The open, peaceful heart receiving this Light transmits lucidity to the brain, health to the body, love to the spirit and peace to the earth.

We are at a crossroads in our evolution, a pivotal moment in which we may boldly walk forward into a bright new reality. It is up to each of us to co-create a more peaceful, humane and enlightened world. With the proper ideal, or guiding aspiration, prayer and meditation will gradually “spiritualize” us, as Edgar Cayce put it, to bring about inner and outer change. But you can speed it up with compassionate service to others. If you want love, love yourself, connect with the divine love in you, and send it out to others. Find in yourself what you wish to receive and then give it. Peace and prosperity begin within. So will the global shift, as we resonate it into the world.

While change brings challenges, it is also true that the greatest need attracts the greatest light. We will experience tremendous amounts of inflowing light in the days ahead. Wherever you live, immerse your political leaders, capital and nation in this radiant white light and see the earth balanced, free and whole. Expect great light in your own life, too, as quiet steals over the earth and leaves your mind and heart to each other’s company. Both will unite and be lifted into the Whole.

Here is a profound path to the wisdom and peace of the open heart. Sit in a quiet place and relax your mind and body. When you feel quiet and focused, pick up pen and paper and ask your heart what it is feeling and why. It will tell you, and so will your body, mind and soul. Give each aspect a voice and provide what it needs to feel peaceful and strong.

Communing with the deeper, core self and its Source keeps the heart attuned to what is unchanging and eternal. To a planet in peril, we can give no greater gift than the peace of the open, flowing heart. We have been waiting for this time and it has patiently waited for us.

What is the nature of this change? That is up to you and your open heart.

“The winds of grace are always blowing," said Ramakrishna, "but you have to raise the sail.”

If you are physically, emotionally and spiritually grounded, but the electrical crackling in the airwaves is fraying your nerves, your ticket to inner peace may be a personal stress reduction tool called the emWave.

Invented by The HeartMath Institute, the emWave is a small, handheld biofeedback device. When you place your thumb on a sensor, the emWave calibrates your heart-rate variability (HRV)—that is, the degree to which your heart and respiration rates are in sync. Streaming blue lights cue you to breathe slowly and evenly as you experience positive emotions and in a few moments or minutes shift your entire being into harmony.

Like all biofeedback devices, the emWave suggests techniques for attaining your optimal heart-rate variability, but invites you to discover what calms you quickest and best. Watching to see what shifts your HRV from a pulsing out-of-sync red light to a medium blue and then a harmonious green is a real-time adventure. Familiarizing yourself with the feeling of drifting into a healthier state of awareness teaches you to downshift without the emWave. You will more easily open to heart inspiration anytime and anywhere.

If you like to experiment, you will love the emWave and its palpable expansion of consciousness. People able to maintain meditative states in the outer world steadily awaken their minds to the heightened clarity, creativity, insight, intuition and spiritual connection of the spiritual master.

The emWave’s four challenge levels facilitate this journey of mastery. The first level brings you to a calm, peaceful state of awareness. Successive levels require you to attain finer degrees of inner harmony.

I use the emWave sometimes to prepare for meditation; it takes me to profundity quicker than rituals and mind-calming techniques. I have also used this handy device to transmute my state of consciousness. During a lengthy cross-country plane flight, I grew impatient and pulled out my emWave to calm down. In just a few minutes I attained HRV in the first three challenge levels and delightedly observed a shift from testy fatigue to an energized state of mental clarity, oneness and outflowing joy. It’s more fun to master emotions with the emWave.

While serving as a personal stress reducer, the emWave performs a service to the world as happy, relaxed users project coherent vibrations into the field. HeartMath globalizes this idea by inviting emWave owners to co-create a planetary peace wave. See the article below to learn how to participate with an emWave in the Global Coherence Initiative’s promising and unprecedented effort to transform global consciousness.

If you decide to purchase an emWave, buying it through would help support this newsletter. You will find on the new Marketplace page of more information about the emWave and the research behind it. You may also want to explore Journey to Wild Divine, a wise, beautiful meditation adventure game that also trains users to master heart-rate variability.

No matter how we achieve harmonic coherence, sending out positive thoughts and emotions immerses us in the light-filled sea of spirit. Happy surfing!

Back in the 1930s, the late great psychic diagnostician Edgar Cayce said, “Thoughts are things---crimes or miracles in their own right.” The eyes of Cayce’s psychic soul, seeing everything as energy, readily perceived that our thoughts, emotions, attitudes and beliefs determine from life to life who we are, how we interpret events, and the reality in which we find ourselves.

Cayce fully understood that it is useless to judge or fear anything. What looks like a meltdown of the U.S. economy, weather and politics could be (and is) progressive change. Every event brings evolutionary change, both in our personal lives and in the course of human history. Sometimes events look dark, as with China’s conquest of Tibet and Al Gore’s loss of the presidency in year 2000. Yet these events brought to the world the Dalai Lama’s brilliant teachings on the use of meditation to manage destructive emotions and Al Gore’s timely warnings about global warming.

What transforms consciousness is destiny, spun out from the personal and collective into the light-filled ocean of spirit, which clothes ideas with atomic particles and waves of matter and form. This exchange between the spirit and materiality is always taking place, but some points in time are more auspicious than others.

Today we find ourselves at just such a pivotal moment—a paradigm shift—in the history of humankind

The Quantum Sea

Cayce was ahead of the quantum wave, whose pioneering physicists now support his contention that our thoughts and feelings configure subatomic packets of light (quanta) into personal and collective realities. I perceive three resonant levels of quantum reality:

1) While each person’s beliefs and expectations create his/her own spheres of existence, 2) the beliefs and expectations in humanity’s collective unconscious are magnetically encoded in a high-speed web of light strung in multiple dimensions inside and above people and the earth.

3) The third dimension is the pulsating, quantum sea of spirit called “life force” or God. This spiritual reality composes the rhythmic music of the universe played by nature and the astrological patterns wheeling through the sky. Both emit a rich, complex set of frequencies, or pitches, reverberating with new, creative possibilities for healing, change and transformation.

These astrological influences emanate their psychospiritual energies into the earth’s magnetic field to present choices and opportunities that evolve us toward the higher good. But sometimes these powerful cosmic forces meet resistance that causes turbulence. This is exactly what we are experiencing now.

Zeitgeist: The Saturn-Uranus Opposition

Virginia Beach astrologer Raye Mathis describes these astrological influences in the September-October 2008 issue of “Venture Inward,” the international magazine published by Edgar Cayce’s Association for Research and Enlightenment (

Between November 4, 2008 (by no accident, voting day in the U.S. presidential election) and July 26, 2010, several oppositions of Saturn and Uranus will arouse powerful polarized energies. Saturn, the planet of change, represents the status quo’s conservative forces of safety and security, while Uranus brings in the energies of bold, dynamic and youthful leadership, as in the socio-political upheaval of the 1960s.

According to Cayce, when these two extremely different energies oppose each other, everything from business relations and personal relationships to financial conditions goes awry.

Sound familiar?

Here is the zeitgeist, or spirit, of these times. Conservative security versus bold, youthful and dynamic change are personified in America’s presidential candidates, their vice-presidential nominees, and the two major political parties. These oppositional energies are global, but they are especially strong in the United States because of the energetic “charge” generated by the nation’s high-powered military and economic forces.

Choices and Challenges for Evolutionaries

At this moment in time, people across the planet face a stark choice. We must decide whether to boldly walk into a new future led by bright, young creative minds or whether to stick with the status quo. Change is never easy, and most people avoid it. Yet here it is and only one question matters: Is the status quo in line with your deepest-held values?

Rejecting the status quo always creates turmoil. The old guard, entrenched in outworn patterns, attempts to win by sowing fear in people’s hearts. Many people close up and rely on others to make their choices. But eventually, the mirror of life reveals the most illumined paths into the future and people walk down them.

Every heart, mind and soul must stay calm enough to make wise, inspired choices. Changing conditions may surge like tidal waves, but the peaceful heart and soul will stay afloat on this heaving sea of energy, which beckons us into a brave new age.

The energies flowing in from the Saturn-Uranus opposition and the Age of Aquarius present us with unprecedented opportunities for self-growth, spiritual illumination and planetary transformation. We meet these extraordinary times with everything in place to effect positive change. Science and spirituality have merged in the new physics to show us the way.

The Global Coherence Initiative

The HeartMath Institute, drawing on 15 years of scientific research, is now moving to effect a global shift in planetary awareness. Everyone is invited to participate in this exciting effort.

The goal of the Global Coherence Initiative is to teach people to evoke heart-based harmony via the emWave (see article above) and transmit coherence into the field to transform consciousness.

HeartMath’s research initially focused on how stress affects the heart, brain and body and how, in turn, human consciousness influences the earth’s magnetic field. Changes in the earth’s magnetic field are now scientifically linked to brain and nervous system changes, human performance, ESP, nutrient synthesis in plants and algae, traffic violations and accidents, human mortality from heart attacks and strokes, and the incidence of depression and suicide.

In other words, human beings are intimately connected with the earth’s electromagnetic field. Geomagnetic changes influence everything on earth and especially the human heart; conversely, the human heart powerfully influences the field.

A Global Wave

Given this interconnectivity, the Global Coherence Initiative seeks people willing to help create a positive emotional wave that will generate a global coherence wave. Its science-based mission is to unite millions of people in heart-focused care and intention to shift global consciousness from instability and discord to balance, cooperation and enduring peace.

The Global Coherence Initiative, like all good projects, plans to measure its outcomes, but in a way that has never been done before: by monitoring the heartbeat and brainwaves of the earth. On the drawing board is a Global Coherence Monitoring System (GCMS) consisting of between 50 and 100 monitors strung out across the planet to measure what is occurring in the earth’s ionosphere, a magnetic field composed of plasma that is highly charged with gases and protects us from solar winds and cosmic rays. The magnetometers will measure our effect on the earth's ionosphere and will also measure electromagnetic changes in the field to predict earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and other planetary events. The two chief researchers predicted weeks in advance the 1980 eruption of Mount St. Helens and other seismic activity.

While the GCMS raises $5 million to hire additional staff, fund the remote monitoring sites and supply emWaves to poorer populations, people with and without emWaves are participating in synchronized coherence events. If you enjoy being at the nexus of science and spirituality, be sure to take part in planned intentionality experiments to shift weather patterns, change the chemical structure of water and mutate living systems such as bacteria. Major universities are taking part in these experiments, which are expected to work because of a known amplification effect that is greater than the sum of the individuals.

You don't need to buy an emWave to join The Global Coherence Initiative. But if you do, the profit from your purchase will fund construction of the GCMS. Either way, you are invited to join more than 5,000 people pouring coherent light into the field to restore harmony to people and the earth. The goal is 10,000 people by year-end. This remarkable effort is underway when we need it most and just as we awaken to our enormous inner resources and co-creative potential.

Light Up the Planet

Sign up at to join this effort to transform consciousness. If you purchase an emWave, enter your location on the Community Map. Members in 46 countries are represented on this map, which shows them as owners of emWaves and reflects in color their self-described state of emotional well-being.

According to HeartMath, when you use a Tracker during synchronized events, this information is uplinked to satellite so that everyone can see everyone else and how they are feeling. The Trackers will be used in experiments once the GCMS is up and running.

It’s hard to imagine a better way than this to serve self and the world. Plugging into the field in this positive, constructive way will prove once and for all, to each and every one of us, that nothing is more powerful than the Light of love.

This time of transition gives a magnificent gift. We are learning about our oneness with each other and with all things. Understanding this connects us with a world of people who want to surf the waves of peace and harmony together.

What’s your stress index these days? If it’s high, try these sure-fired ways to evoke and preserve harmony and light.

1. Resonate with a friend. One of the best ways to reconnect with the deeper, core self is to talk with a loving friend. Besides the relief in resonating with a balanced, harmonic person, speaking your truth opens the throat chakra so that light can flow up from the heart and down from the crown of the head to infuse the energy system with inspiration and balance. Friends and family are wonderful mirrors, and we see ourselves more clearly in them. Listening to other people’s constructive ideas frees up our own.

2. Spend time in nature. Go outdoors, immerse your senses in nature’s beauty and allow her frequencies of vibration to ground and center you in a higher reality. Nature’s resonant frequencies of 8 to 14 hertz activate the sensory brainwaves of alpha, which produce a relaxed, diffused state of awareness. Being in nature or daydreaming about it heals the body and stimulates creative ideas and soul inspiration.

3. Stay in the Light. Immerse your awareness in the Light just above and toward the back of your head for twenty to sixty seconds. Simply connecting with this light will steady your mind, strengthen your body and open your heart to the loving perspectives of your soul. Do this at any time and in any place. You will immediately shift into emotional balance.

4. Put good energy into everything. Embarking on every new project with an open heart, clear mind and positive expectations patterns the project and strengthens it to withstand fluctuations in the field. If the project falters, use the light in you to rebalance and harmonize it.

5. Use right action and right timing. Sometimes we need to push a stuck door to open it. Sometimes it’s the wrong door. Right action and right timing are critical today. If you are unsuccessfully attempting to open a certain door and the result is unmanageable stress, you may need to let go of that doorknob. Saturate it with light, but if nothing works, pull the plug on your stress.

6. Heed your intuition. It’s always wise to listen to the inner self, which knows more than the logical mind and ably guides right action and timing. In a quiet, contemplative state of mind, ask for guidance in everything. In the intense light of these times, your intuition will grow stronger and more accurate. Connecting with feelings puts us in touch with our intuition. You might consider journaling, writing a song or creating a work of art. Creative work connects us with the deeper, subconscious core self, where the soul resides.

7. Reach out and send light. It’s hard to watch people do greedy, selfish, unkind and mean-spirited things. We want to protest and oppose wrong action. But if you do so and cannot stay peaceful, withdraw until you can. The best path to change is peaceful activism. Showering people and events with light restores them to the Divine Harmonic.

8. Stay in your power. Recently I lost an important relationship by overextending myself to the point of intolerable stress. A healthy diet, adequate rest, nature walks, daily meditation, good friends and self-awareness keep me balanced and working from a solid base; otherwise, body-mind stress lets the bad Judy loose. It’s probably the same for you. In all things, if something feels bad, it probably is. Stay with what feels and is good for you. If you feel divided, don’t do anything until you clearly see the right thing to do.

9. Cultivate happiness. Examine what makes you happy and give it to yourself. Too often we expend our time and treasure on everyone else. Put yourself first! Soon your lasting happiness will overflow to uplift the lives of others. When you feed and nurture your happiness, the Law of Attraction brings more of it to you and to everyone around you.

10. Dream for guidance. If you do not meditate, ask for a guiding dream to discover what your soul wants and needs. Set an intention before bedtime, place pen and paper by your bed, and expect to wake up with a solution in mind. Do this until you know your next best steps.

11. Sing for harmony! Listen to music that gives you joy and sing anything that comes into your mind (for laughs, bellow songs like “The Yellow Rose of Texas,” “Camptown Races” or “My Boomerang Won’t Come Back”). Or bring musical tones up and down your body’s energy system (chakras) and allow the frequencies to orchestrate harmony. Sound is calming and it resonates in the body. If you like to sing or listen to soaring spiritual harmonies, you will love Deva Premal’s exquisite album of Hindu music, "Dakshina."

12. Remember who you are. There is nothing in this world more powerful than the open heart aligned with its body, mind and soul. In this we are powerful enough to become the gods we are meant to be and are becoming.
